Aiming and positioning is also a big part of the game, and with some of the cool upgrades you attain, it really allows you to create your own style.Story - Top notch. However, I can say that even though I picked it up at such a late date, the quality of the graphics were still very impressive, but, that's Unreal Technology for you.AI - The enemies in this game are quite challenging and have their own tendencies. The upgrade system in particular plays a huge role in making you want to keep going. Why did they have to do that.
For such a stellar game, the end was really lackluster to me, both in terms of the final challenge and sealing the story. Also, the last boss fight is perhaps the easiest of all the fights, which made no sense to me. I loved the Doom series for that reason, and this game definitely delivers with a chilling and eerie feel. It definitely isn't a 'stand in one place and shoot' kind of game.Atmosphere - Definitely creepy, which is good. During the time of it's release, I'm sure the graphics would have blown me away.
In other words, strafing around in circles and hiding behind objects is as evasive as you can get most of the time.In-Game Mechanic(Security Cameras) - While I thought this was a fine idea, the way security cameras work in this game are quite annoying. If you are spotted and trigger an alarm, flying bots swoop in one after the other until the 60 second security alert is over. I felt like the overall gameplay would have been spot on with an addition such as those. During your endeavors you will see moving shadows, hear odd noises, and come in contact with some wicked individuals.Gameplay - While the controls are what most would expect, there are some great aspects to this game that make it more enjoyable. The first half of the game is generally spent trying to piece things together and figure out just what the hell is going on.
Warning, this game is not meant for the feint of heart. After being on the fence with first person shooters for consoles( personally, I like FPS for the PC infinitely more), it was suggested to me to try Bioshock. What can I say, it was an excellent suggestion. If you are also skeptical about FPS types for consoles, or this game in general, perhaps this review will ease your mind. The Good : Graphics - Unique and very detailed levels. Granted, the further you advance in the game, the easier it is to avoid these cameras or nullify the alert. However, for early game those cameras are an annoyance that just didn't need to be there.Ending - The only semi major complaint I have with this game concerns the ending.
Perhaps I expected too much, but the end provides you with a 15 sec or so cinematic then goes straight back to the start menu. I felt robbed of what could have been an epic finale. What a disappointment. In conclusion, this is a fantastic game and well worth the low price it sells for now.
I found that encounters really kept my attention, primarily because the AI can be very elusive. If it weren't for a silly-weak ending to an otherwise top notch experience, it would have gotten 5 stars from me. Great twists are provided though, and there are even ways you can shape the events that happen in game.
( Although the plot is basically linear )The Bad :(I only have a few minor gripes about this game, which says a lot about it's overall quality)Movement - Would have been nice to have a roll or sidestep ability. Plus, those damn security bots even showed up.
I've never been a fan of 1st person shooters, always found the linear nature of them quite boring. The environment created for this game is probably the best i've ever played. I'd been looking for a new game to play and had seen Bioshock reviewed quite well so I decided to download the demo off of Xbox Live. I literally played the demo for 10 minutes and jumped online to buy the game. The water effects are amazing, but beyond that, Rapture (the undersea city the game takes place in) is simply a sight to be seen. The voice acting is top notch and the story solid.Everyone should play this game at some point, and at $20 it really is a steal of a value.
Game play wise, this game is fantastic if you like First person shooters/Role playing games. It is one of the most creative games plot wise I have played in a long time. Graphics wise, it is fair, but the slightly animated sense helps push along the overall mood of the game. The story is terrific. This game has the potential to scare even the experienced FPS (First Person Shooter) player. A very original and twisted game.
I enjoyed the scenery/feeling of the game and found the characters to be humorous yet deadly. I really enjoyed this game. I had to play through twice just to see the alternate endings. I wasn't excited about playing this game at first and I received it as a gift. When I finally got around to playing it, I was very impressed. Hours of play for minutes of satisfaction :) Little sisters and their protector "MR. B" , what an unusual but pleasing gaming experience.
Its hacks are fun to do bc bc it reminds me of that old pipe game i used to play on the PC. The game is really fun the only reason i gave it a 4 and not a 5 is bc it gets a little repetitive. If you looking for something to do while you wait for a game(batman) or whatever this is the one. I was looking for a game that is cheap and a lot of fun and i got it. I really like all the things you can upgrade your weapons, plasmids and abilities. Its cheap and a lot of fun. If you dont try it you will be sad.
